In August, 2007, the Instituto de Informática (Informatics Institute) of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) has signed the University Software Program License Agreement with Cadence, having access to leading industry EDA tools. Since then, Cadence EDA tools have been incorporated into classes and research design flows.

  • INF01185 - Concepção de Circuitos Integrados I (VLSI Design I): Transistor, semiconductor devices and logic gates. Fabrication process. Design rules and design methodology. Arithmetic building blocks, registers, PLA and ROM. Test structures.
  • INF01194 - Concepção de Circuitos Integrados II (VLSI Design II): Design of integrated circuits: datapath and control; organization of ICs and comparison of differet solutions. Designing of an IC: specification, validation, implementation, verification and test.
  • MIC02 - Concepção de Circuitos Integrados em Alta Escala (VLSI Design): Abstract levels. Transistor, semiconductor devices and logic gates. Combinational CMOS logic. Fabrication process. Design rules and electrical rules. Scaling. Static and dynamic logic design. Layout styles. Sequential blocks, design methodologies and design tools. Arithmetic building blocks, registers, PLA and ROM. Test structures.
  • • INF01175 - Sistemas Digitais: Computer seen as a digital system. Operational and control units. Control Structures, "hardwired" microprograms, and PLA, etc. Synchronous and asynchronous systems, communication between systems.Case studies (control): "carry look-ahead" break in multi input / output, etc.
